Stevedoring company Vakarų Krova successfully expands its activities and range of services, won two public procurement and in February starts provision of fly ash, hazardous waste, management at Kaunas and Vilnius Combined Heat and Power Plants.
The range of services offered to new customers will cover the entire logistic management chain of this hazardous waste. Firstly, fly ash from companies based in Kaunas and Vilnius will be delivered to the Vakarų krova terminals, where it will be packed and stored. The companies of Vakarų laivų gamykla group also arrange loading and transportation of this hazardous waste to Norway for further disposal.
According to Donatas Kupreščenko, marketing manager for Vakarų krova, these projects are the most complicated for the company.
“During the whole time of our company’s activity, it was for the first time when we participated in such public procurements, preparation for which lasted approximately half year. In addition, the volume of services required by this procurement far exceeded existing service range of the company, so we had to involve subcontractors,” said Donatas Kupreščenko.
The Norwegian company NOAH will be engaged in transportation of ash by ships and its further disposal. Another participant is Elme transportas, which will transport hazardous waste in special tanks from power stations to Vakarų krova terminals.
“These public procurement orders have become one of the most significant achievements of our company since its establishing. This enables us to increase volumes by as much as 25% and to ensure stable operation of the company over the next three years,” summarized Gediminas Rimkus, director of Vakarų krova Gediminas Rimkus.
